Jesus begins his High Priestly prayer with one desire: that the Father would be glorified. As Jesus prays for the Father to be glorified, so do we.
A SERMON SERIES FROM JOHN 17
As Jesus prayed, so do we.
“If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet the distance makes no difference; He is praying for me.” – Robert Murray M’Cheyne
On the night of His betrayal, Jesus prays in the Upper Room. The prayer recorded in John 17 is known as the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. As our High Priest, Jesus intercedes for us.
This prayer serves as a model for how we should pray. We pray for the Father to be glorified. We pray for the people of God to be preserved. We pray for the church of Jesus, whom He purchased with His blood, to be unified in Christ and display His love to a lost and dying world.
As Jesus prays, so do we.
WEEK ONE
Jesus, Our High Priest
As High Priest, Jesus serves as mediator between God the Father and his people. As mediator, Jesus prays for His people and makes a way for His people to pray to the Father.
WEEK THREE
Father, Preserve Your People
Jesus prays for his disciples to be kept in the Father’s name and sanctified in the truth. As Jesus prays for his people to be preserved, so do we.
WEEK FOUR
Father, Unify Your Church
Jesus desires that the church live in His unity, displaying His love and continuing to make His name known to the world. Therefore, as we pray for unity, we must abide in Christ, grow in our love for one another, and keep our eyes on eternity.
